cochrane collaboration blood pressure study :: Article Creator Method Enables Fast, Accurate Estimates Of Cardiovascular State To Inform Blood Pressure Management If patients receiving intensive care or undergoing major surgery develop excessively high or low blood pressures, they could suffer severe organ dysfunction. It's not enough for their care team to know that pressure is abnormal. To choose the correct drug to treat the problem, doctors must know why blood pressure has changed. A new MIT study presents the mathematical framework needed to derive that crucial information accurately and in real time. The mathematical approach, described in a recent study in IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, produces proportional estimates of the two critical factors underlying blood pressure changes: the heart's rate of blood output (cardiac output) and the arterial system's resistance to that blood flow (systemic vascular resistance). B...

One year ago today, several of us from STAT dressed up in pink and saw the Barbie movie together. I'm still thinking about the ambiguity of the movie's last line, and as you'll see below, medical researchers are too. Bird flu cases in humans now total 13 in U.S. The number of confirmed human infections with the bird flu virus associated with the ongoing outbreak in dairy cattle has risen to 13, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday, as it confirmed three additional cases in Colorado. a clinical trial :: Article Creator Hemophilia A Gene Therapy Superior To FVIII Replacement In Phase 3 Trial Giroctocogene fitelparvovec, an investigational gene therapy for adults with hemophilia A, is generally well tolerated and superior to standard replacement therapy in reducing bleeds, according to new top-line results from a Phase 3 clinical trial. The open-label trial, dubbed AFFINE (NCT04370054) and sponsored by Pfizer, has now treated 75 men with moderate to severe disease. It compared a patient's annualized bleeding rate in the months before the study's start — while on factor VIII (FVIII) prophylaxis, or preventive, replacement therapy — to that following at least 15 months after the one-time gene therapy infusion. The early results show the gene therapy worked better than FVIII treatment to reduce bleeds, Pfizer announced in a company press release. "I'm excited by the strength of these positive results from the...
