Best supplements for high blood pressure - 2p a day capsules could prevent hypertension

High blood pressure is a common condition that affects more than 25 per cent of all adults in the UK.

The condition, which is also known as hypertension, puts extra stress on blood vessels and vital organs, including the heart and lungs.

You could be at risk of high blood pressure by eating an unhealthy diet, or by not doing enough exercise.

But you could slash your chances of developing hypertension by taking daily chamomile supplements, it’s been claimed.

Chamomile is a popular herb that’s usually found in face creams, drinks and perfumes.

It’s commonly used to treat stomach problems, to relieve muscle spasms, and even treat skin conditions, said PennState Hershey’s Milton Hershey Medical Center.

But, it could also be used to lower blood pressure slightly, added the medical school.

“Chamomile is one of the most popular herbs in the Western world,” said the Milton Hershey Medical Center.

“Chamomile teas, ointments, and extracts all start with the white and yellow flower head.

“The flower heads may be dried and used in teas or capsules or crushed and steamed to produce a blue oil, which is used as medicine.

“Chamomile may lower blood pressure slightly,” it said.

The medical school warned: “Taking it with drugs for high blood pressure could cause blood pressure to drop too low.”

Speak to a doctor before deciding to take chamomile supplements to treat blood pressure, it added.

Chamomile works by easing muscle tension and reducing stress, which subsequently lowers blood pressure, it’s been claimed.

You could also lower your risk of high blood pressure by taking daily hawthorn supplements.

The shrub increases coronary artery flow and boosts circulation, scientists have revealed.

High blood pressure is known as ‘the silent killer’ as people may not even be aware that they’re at risk.

The only way of knowing if you have high blood pressure is to get it checked.

Patients with extremely high blood pressure may have some warning signs of the condition, including chest pain and dizziness.

All adults over 40 years old should check their blood pressure at least every five years, said the NHS.
